Shitij & Monisha

Some love stories feel like they are written in the stars—Shitij and Monisha’s was one of them. Separated by oceans, yet deeply connected, their journey began during the uncertainty of COVID, where they first met virtually and fell hard for each other. Over time, their love transcended distance, leading to this breathtaking moment—a proposal that was as meaningful as their story itself.

Shitij had been planning this moment meticulously from the very start. A man who understands the depth of true romance, he knew Monisha’s love language was words, and he wanted his proposal to be something she would never forget. Instead of a simple question, he decided to make every month leading up to their reunion special. For a year, he sent Monisha a beautifully handwritten postcard, each one starting with a specific letter. By the time the last one arrived, they spelled out the words “Will You Marry Me?”—a secret message woven into time and distance, waiting for this day to be unveiled.

The setting had to be just as extraordinary as their love story. Nestled in the heart of Tauranga, their glamping retreat provided the perfect intimate and romantic backdrop. Surrounded by native bushland, with fairy lights twinkling under the open sky, the secluded escape felt like something out of a dream. A beautifully styled picnic setup awaited them—cushioned blankets, rustic lanterns, and soft florals accentuating the cozy ambiance. The scene was warm, inviting, and completely tailored to Monisha’s personality.

As they arrived, Monisha was unaware of what was about to unfold. The final postcard was waiting for her, placed thoughtfully on the picnic table. The moment she picked it up and saw the last letter fall into place, realization washed over her. Turning to find Shitij already down on one knee, her hands flew to her face in sheer joy and disbelief.

Tears, laughter, and a love so pure—it was a moment I will never forget capturing. The golden-hour light bathed them in warmth as they embraced, overwhelmed with happiness. The glamping retreat felt like it had paused in time just for them, as if the entire world was giving them this perfect moment to celebrate their love.

As a photographer, I’ve witnessed many proposals, but this was one of the most thoughtful and deeply personal ones I have ever been part of. Every detail, every gesture, and every word had been crafted with love and intention.

Monisha later told me that she had always dreamed of a proposal filled with meaning rather than grandeur—and Shitij had given her both. The love, effort, and patience he put into this moment made it truly unforgettable.
